Zusters magazine stad gods
In the centre of Utrecht there’s a convent. You often see the nuns walking along the canal in their distinctive light-colored habits. The convent publishes a members’ magazine that explores various spiritual and philosophical themes. Every now and then, they ask me to create artwork for it — a project I always really enjoy. This time, the theme was especially fun: they asked me to make illustrative versions of their old vacation photos — those lovely, faded sepia pictures taken on film rolls. Lately, I’ve been experimenting more with brushstrokes and color gradients in my work, and this project gave me the perfect opportunity to fully explore that style.
